Elementary Teachers a. The student instructional day will be 6 hours 30 minutes. The allocation of time for subjects will be consistent with the ODE’s instructional requirements. b. All elementary teachers shall have their teaching schedules so arranged so as to have a minimum of 205 minutes per week of planning time during the student day excluding the one hour duty free lunch period. General education teachers will have their planning time provided by elementary specialist teachers. c. Any proposed modification of the elementary school schedule from year to year shall follow the decision-consensus procedure set forth in Article III of the Teacher Administrative Partnership (TAP) charter, and shall be memorialized by a Letter of Understanding signed by the Superintendent and Local 795 President.

Elementary Teachers. Elementary teachers’ day shall be eight-ten a.m. to three forty p.m. (8:10 – 3:40), with a forty (40) minute lunch period. All elementary teachers shall be guaranteed a duty-free uninterrupted lunch period of at least forty (40) minutes. The only exception to this policy shall be when weather conditions are such that the elementary children cannot be sent out of doors. In these cases, the building principal will assign the necessary teachers and other personnel to supervise through the noon period. These assignments shall be on a rotating basis. Elementary teachers K-5 shall normally have a guaranteed break during recess periods. Exceptions to this policy shall be when weather/emergency situations are such that the elementary children cannot be sent outdoors. In these cases, the building principal will assign the necessary teachers and other personnel to properly supervise students during these periods on a rotating basis. It is understood and agreed classroom paraprofessionals may be removed by the Administration from their classroom assignment to implement this provision. If qualified paraprofessionals are not available and already in a building to implement this provision, a staff member representative may request a meeting with the principal and Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee to review the matter and discuss possible alternative solutions.

Such time shall be within the student school day, shall be provided in blocks of time that are no less than 20 minutes, and shall be for use by each member as the member may determine as long as it is related to their assigned responsibilities. Such time will be without students in attendance and no other responsibilities will be assigned by the administration during this schedule planning/preparation time except in cases of urgent necessity.

A teaching assignment shall be defined as time during the instructional week devoted to teaching courses and lessons, and shall include time assigned to supervise curricular activities, including study periods but not including recess. b. Such preparation time shall be in periods of not less than thirty (30) minutes.
Elementary Teachers transferring to the secondary panel with the program shall commence accruing seniority on the Secondary Seniority List as of the first teaching day following the transfer of the program. Secondary seniority shall be consistent with Article 12 of the secondary collective agreement.

Elementary Teachers. Each teacher employed full time shall be provided 225 minutes per week for planning or conference time. Part time employees who meet the qualifications outlined in the OCFT Recognition clause of this Agreement shall be granted planning or conference time in direct proportional correlation to the amount of time they are employed compared to a full time teacher. Thus, a half time employee shall receive one-half of the planning and conference time accorded a full time employee.
