– Fitness for Duty Requirements. 1. Normally, when a DST loses their military membership as a result of being deemed medically or physically unfit for duty, they are subsequently terminated from their technician position for failure to meet a condition of employment. However, upon request, a DST who is pending disability retirement may be retained until the end of the pay period in which OPM adjudication is received provided they meet the conditions below:
