Float Pool Nurse. A float pool nurse is a staff nurse who has the competency and is able and willing to work in three (3) or more clinical units and has applied for and been accepted into a Float Pool position. A float pool nurse may be required to work in any clinical unit for which she or he has the required competency.

Float Pool Nurse. A float pool nurse is a staff nurse hired into the float pool. The float pool is a unit of nurses who has float to other units. Float pool nurses shall be provided with orientation and training sufficient to allow effective implementation of the competency assignment so that the nurse may perform the tasks or procedures safely and is able and willing to work in three (3) or more clinical units and has applied for and been accepted into a Float Pool positionindependently. A float pool nurse will not be expected to assume the role of unit charge nurse. An exception to this guideline may be required to work necessitated by a crisis situation and may be made only after consultation with a nurse manager or nursing supervisor and in any clinical unit for which she or he has agreement with the required competencyfloat nurse involved.
