Common use of Full Time Release Union Leave Clause in Contracts

Full Time Release Union Leave. Leave of absence with continuation of salary, benefits and other entitlements shall be granted for Union activities in the district subject to the following limitations: a) A maximum of four (4.0) full-time equivalent teachers in any school year, provided that such leave for any teacher shall be in blocks of 0.5 or 1.0 only. b) Written request to the Director of Education will be as soon as possible in the school year preceding the leave identifying the teachers who will be on Union leave. c) Reimbursement by the Union or bargaining unit of the costs of salary and benefits for the replacement teachers. The salary costs shall be deemed to be those of a category A3 Step 0 teacher and the benefit costs shall be deemed to be twelve (12%) percent of the salary costs for each full time equivalent leave used. d) A teacher who is an unsuccessful candidate for election or re-election, shall return to the teacher's school or workplace to a position for which they are qualified subject to Article 23
