GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS OF SEED FARMERS Sample Clauses

GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS OF SEED FARMERS. During February-March 1997, IFPRI-FOFIFA conducted a survey of the seed multiplication sub-sector in five regions of Madagascar. The sample includes both members of Groupements de Producteurs de Semences (GPS) and individuals private seed farmers that are not part of a GPS. We will refer to the second group as Producteurs de Semences Individuels or PSI farmers. In the case of GPS, we sampled the members, whereas in the case of PSI the survey covered all the seed farmers in the survey areas. The total sample of 109 seed farmers includes 61 percent GPS farmers and 39 percent PSI farmers (see table 3.2). CMS and other large centers for the production of seed are treated separately.
