Common use of Graduate Teaching Assistant Leave Clause in Contracts

Graduate Teaching Assistant Leave. The University and the Union recognize that Employee illness and injury may be unavoidable and that the absence as a result of such illness and injury will occur from time to time. The University and the Union recognize that the flexibility and informality of the prior practice with respect to graduate teaching assistants has proven to be of benefit to all parties, and desire to maintain that policy. Accordingly, the parties agree not to adopt formal language governing sick leave, but to continue prior practice within College and Departments/Units. In the event that the University or Union determines that the prior practice is impracticable or has created abuse or excessive sick leave, the prior practice may be terminated immediately upon written notice to the Union or University. In the event of such a notice, negotiations shall begin immediately regarding language to be incorporated into this agreement regarding sick leave. The parties agree that Employer decisions under prior practice shall not be grievable except to the extent that they violate other provisions of this agreement.
