Grievances, Arbitrations, and Other Legal Matters. The SR advises members; assists stewards, the Grievance Officer, and other Executive officers in the processing of grievances; prepares and presents grievance arbitrations, Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB) proceedings, and Unemployment Insurance appeals. However, the SR shall have the right to refuse to present a particular grievance arbitration, OLRB proceeding, or Unemployment Insurance appeal should s/he be unwilling to undertake such a presentation because s/he reasonably feels s/he is unqualified to present it, or on any other reasonable grounds. Nothing in the above precludes the Employer from hiring legal counsel or using CUPE staff to present such a case. The SR shall assist legal counsel or CUPE staff when directed.
