Groundwater Resources Affected Environment. Regional Hydrogeology The Xxxxxxx Ranch is part of the Sacramento Valley Groundwater Basin, which is the major groundwater basin in the Sacramento River Hydrologic Region and is considered a single aquifer system (City of Xxxxx 2007, p. 3.3-1). The storage capacity of the Sacramento Valley Groundwater Basin is about 114 million af beginning at depths of 20 to 60 feet below the land surface. Groundwater provides about 31 percent of the water supply during normal periods for urban and agricultural uses in the region. During dry periods, groundwater usage typically increases. Groundwater quality of the overall basin is generally excellent (City of Xxxxx 2007, p. 3.3-1). This groundwater basin is composed of 18 groundwater subbasins, including the Yolo, Xxxxxx, Colusa, and North American Subbasins. Xxxxxxx Ranch is within the Yolo Subbasin, which encompasses approximately 400 square miles in the southern portion of the Sacramento Valley Groundwater Basin, primarily in Yolo County. The subbasin is bounded on the east by the Sacramento River, on the west by the Coast Ranges, on the north by Cache Creek, and on the south by Putah Creek (DWR 2004a).
