Informing Teaching. ‌ These reflections suggest that being aware of themes that pervade mathematics could be an important aspect of being a professional mathematician. In particular, making explicit reference to them when they arise could contribute to effective teaching, because it could con- tribute to student appreciation of how mathematics works, and what constitutes mathematical thinking. Some students notice the hidden curriculum, the mathematical practices that make mathematics such a creative, stimulating and fulfilling discipline to follow, but many may not, without having their attention directed to them. Similarly, being aware of the use of your own powers as a mathematical thinker could inform teaching by looking for ways to provoke students to use their own powers, rather than usurping them through trying to ‘do the learning for students’. The presence, persistence, and practical nature of the processes which Pólya articulated provide a strong foundation for promoting mathematical thinking rather than simply providing support for passing assessment tasks.

  • Board Member Training Within 90 days after the Effective Date, each member of the Board of Directors shall receive at least two hours of training. This training shall address the corporate governance responsibilities of board members, and the responsibilities of board members with respect to review and oversight of the Compliance Program. Specifically, the training shall address the unique responsibilities of health care Board members, including the risks, oversight areas, and strategic approaches to conducting oversight of a health care entity. This training may be conducted by an outside compliance expert hired by the Board and should include a discussion of the OIG’s guidance on Board member responsibilities.‌ New members of the Board of Directors shall receive the Board Member Training described above within 30 days after becoming a member or within 90 days after the Effective Date, whichever is later.

  • Staffing Concerns Nurses, individually or as a group, believing there is an immediate workload/staffing problem should bring that problem to the attention of the supervisor or Nurse Manager as soon as the problem is identified. Nurses believing there is a continuous or potential workload/staffing problem, which may include the ability to receive rest periods and lunch breaks, should attempt to resolve the problem in discussions at the work unit level. Continuous or potential workload/staffing problems discussed at the work unit level that have not been resolved may be raised through the Joint Conference Committee. The Joint Conference Committee may determine that a unit- based work team would best address the workload/staffing problem raised. If the Joint Conference Committee makes that determination, a sub-committee consisting of an appropriate number of staff nurses who are from the unit and shift(s) experiencing the workload/staffing problem (appropriate number of staff nurses to be determined by the Joint Conference Committee), a WSNA representative and appropriate management staff will meet to discuss the problem raised.
