Judicial and Official Appearance Leave. 13.7.1 Judicial and Official Appearance Leave shall be granted for the purposes of regularly called jury duty, appearance as a witness (in court) other than as a litigant, or to respond to an official order from another governmental jurisdiction for reasons not brought about through the connivance or misconduct of the employee. a. The employee seeking an Official Appearance Leave shall submit a request accompanied by the official order for an approved absence to the immediate supervisor on the next working day after the individual knows he/she is to appear. b. An employee shall be granted a leave of absence not to exceed the duration of the requirements of the official order for participation and appearance. c. An employee granted a leave of absence under these provisions shall be granted Office compensation, which when added to jury or witness fees, shall not exceed the employee’s regular Office compensation. The employee shall endorse to the Office the jury or witness fees checks. The Office, in turn, shall issue the employee appropriate salary warrants for payment of the employee’s salary and shall deduct normal retirement and other authorized contributions. d. Per Diem or other travel expense shall be retained by the employee. e. When on jury duty, an employee shall present a statement from the jury commissioner or other appropriate official of the court showing the time served on jury duty which shall be attached to the absence form. Upon completion of jury duty, the employee shall return to work.
