Common use of Justifiable Absence Clause in Contracts

Justifiable Absence. All full-time members shall be granted days of absence for personal business during each calendar year without loss of pay or deduction from sick days. Part- time members shall be granted a maximum of two (2) such days per year, unless both days are taken for the purpose of observing religious holidays in which case a third day of justifiable absence for the observance of a religious holiday can be requested and will be granted. Personal business is an obligation or emergency over which the member has no control and which requires immediate attention. Generally, these are limited to one (1) day per occurrence. When five (5) hours or more of travel time are required, additional time shall be granted. Notice of such absence shall be given as far in advance as possible. In giving such notice, or upon return to school, if the justifiable absence was for an emergency, the member shall submit the appropriate form which shall require only a check mark for items listed below.
