Location of Incident. At 0315 hrs on 13 February 2008, 12 robbers armed with knives and a revolver boarded the ship from the aft. The robbers overpowered the deck watchman, took over his intercommunications microphone and tied him to the winch.
Location of Incident. The Anchor 2 was subsequently found at about 2150hrs on 20 October 2007. The towing rope was reportedly missing, and the right side glass window, the doors leading to the steering console and the navigational control were broken. The company security officer suspected that some robbers have boarded the unmanned Anchor 2 while it was towed by the SM V, cut off the towing rope and set the workboat adrift. The company security officer reported the incident to the coastal state and the flag state.
Location of Incident. At about 0130hrs on 4 November 2007, some crew members who were on security watch at the xxxxx spotted six robbers armed with knives on the deck of the ship. They informed the duty officer who mustered all crew members on the navigation deck, raised the general alarm and activated the ship’s anti-piracy measures. The duty officer also reported the incident to the harbour pilots.
Location of Incident. The robbers were spotted on board the ship by a duty crew who immediately informed the bridge via his hand-held radio set and sounded the ship’s alarm. The robbers jumped overboard and escaped in their motor boat with the ship’s life raft. There were no injuries reported in the incident. The ReCAAP ISC has categorised this incident as a Category 2 (i.e. moderately significant) incident.
Location of Incident. At about 0930hrs on 20 February 2008, three fishing boats approached the general cargo ship. Two groups of men boarded the ship from the fishing boats by climbing up the general cargo ship using grapnel and ropes. One group reportedly consisted of 18 men and the other comprised 10 men. The ship master alerted the crew and reported the incident to the Tuticorin port control via the VHF.
Location of Incident. The craft attempted to obstruct the passage of the Lion City River by steering into her path. The tanker tried to steer away from the craft when a second unlit craft was spotted on the port side. The crew immediately made an announcement over its public address system, alerted its anti-piracy watch personnel and reported the incident to the Singapore authorities. The crew also switched on the deck lights, blew the ship’s whistle and rigged the deck water hose. The ship safety officer immediately informed the company safety officer about the incident.
Location of Incident. The robbers broke into the CO2 room and stole eight pieces of extension cable for the refrigerator containers and a six-person life raft before escaping. Upon discovery of the robbery, the ship master reported the incident to the Port State Control Centre and the Philippine Coast Guard.
Location of Incident. One boat was at the portside of the ship while the other at the starboard quarter. About seven robbers were spotted transferring twistlocks and turnbuckles from the container ship to the wooden boats. The chief crew at the deck of the ship informed the bridge about the incident and mustered the crew in an attempt to stop the theft. He also reported the incident to the Vietnam Marine Police. The robbers fled with the twistlocks and the turnbuckles. There was no report of injury to the crew or damage to the ship.
