Marine Mammal Protection Act. The impacts of the proposed action on protected species are considered in section 4.2.1 of the EA and, based on the limited interaction of endangered species with hook gear (section 2.1.3), NOAA Fisheries Service has concluded that there would be no direct or indirect impacts on marine mammals, that the proposed action is consistent with the provisions of the MMPA, and that the proposed action would not alter existing measures to protect the species likely to inhabit the management units of the subject fisheries.
