Common use of Maximum Length of Leave Clause in Contracts

Maximum Length of Leave. The maximum period of time a Unit Member may spend on an unpaid leave of absence, regardless of purpose, is three years within a rolling ten year period. A. A Unit Member may be granted an unpaid leave of absence for up to one complete school year, and if the purpose of the leave is child rearing or health, the Employer may approve a renewal of this leave on an annual basis up to a maximum of three school years. B. If the purpose of the leave is study or legislative service, the employer may approve a renewal of the leave of absence up to a maximum of two school years. C. One year is the maximum length of absence which may be approved for an unpaid leave for all other purposes such as personal growth, travel or alternative employment. D. Leaves may be extended at the discretion of the Employer up to the allowable maximum described in this Article. Unit Members shall notify SCOE on or before March 1st of each year whether they will be returning to work following the leave or will be requesting an extension of the leave.
