Pay for Acting in a Senior Capacity. (a) Except as provided in (c) below, temporary appointments to a higher position must be authorized in writing by the Department Head concerned. (b) When an Employee is appointed to temporarily accept the responsibilities and to carry out the duties incident to a position which is senior to the position which the Employee normally holds, the Employee shall be paid for every day the duties of the senior position are carried out at the minimum rate in the scale for such senior position which represents an increase over the Employee's normal rate. If the acting appointment is known to be three (3) consecutive months or longer from the outset, any paid leave taken during the period will be paid at the higher rate. If the acting appointment becomes three (3) consecutive months or longer, paid leave from the three (3) months point onwards will be paid at the higher rate. This provision only applies to Article 5.03
