Probationary Period for New Hires. A. All new employees shall be probationary employees until they have completed forty-five (45) work days of service exclusive of any unpaid leaves or layoffs. The purpose of the probationary period is to provide an opportunity for the employer to determine whether the employee can perform the job satisfactorily, which qualifies him/her for regular employee status. During the probationary period, the employee shall be represented by the Union for all purposes, except the employee shall have no seniority status and may be terminated at the sole discretion of the employer without regard to his/her relative length of service and without recourse to the grievance procedure and subject to Article VII, K. Upon the successful completion of his/her probationary period, the employee's name shall be added to the seniority list as of his/her last date of hire.
