Professional and Education Leave. (a) Leave of absence with pay or without pay may be granted to employees to attend professional and educational meetings, courses, or other events which may be judged beneficial to the employee's professional development, especially as it relates to her responsibilities with the Employer. (b) When mandatory attendance is required of an employee by the Employer to attend a course, workshop, inservice, or meeting, the Employer agrees to compensate such employees for the time off work to attend the course, workshop, inservice or meeting. If the employee is not scheduled to work, the Employer agrees to compensate the employee at their appropriate rate of pay for the time spent. (c) A Nurse who is elected to the College of Nurses will be granted professional leave, without pay, to attend regularly scheduled meetings of the College of Nurses, provided such leave does not unduly interfere with the operations of the Employer. (d) Where a Nurse is granted a leave of absence in accordance with (a), (b), or (c) above, she shall not be required to work the night tour immediately preceding, or the evening or night tour immediately following the leave of absence.
