Common use of Professional and Education Leave Clause in Contracts

Professional and Education Leave. (a) Nurses may be granted leave(s) of absence with or without pay to attend workshops, seminars and short courses, which may be deemed beneficial to the Nurse's professional development especially as it relates to her responsibilities. Such leave is granted at the discretion of the Employer. The Employer will endeavour to grant such approved leaves as equitably as possible from amongst the bargaining unit members who apply. (b) Professional leave without pay will be granted to Nurses who are elected to the College of Nurses of Ontario or the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario to attend their regularly scheduled meetings. (c) Professional leave with pay for lost time will be provided to Nurses required to write examinations as part of the College of Nurses Quality Assurance program.
