Religious Holiday. Observance of a religious holiday of the unit member's faith (limited to three [3] days per school year). The Personal Necessity Form must be filed no less than five (5) workdays in advance of the religious holiday.
Religious Holiday. Employees shall be entitled to observe a religious holiday that falls on the employee’s regularly scheduled workday. Only when an employee does not have available paid time off (i.e., annual leave, floating holiday, or compensatory time) may they take leave without pay, which must be pre-approved by the Human Resources Director in consultation with the General Manager or Division Director.
Religious Holiday. Leave of absence with pay because of religious holidays will be granted by the department head. It may be charged to vacation or may be granted in lieu of overtime the employee may have worked; or the employee may be allowed to work on some regular off day in order to be allowed off on the religious holiday.
Religious Holiday. A. An employee will be granted annual leave or leave without pay for a workday, which occurs on a religious holiday. B. An employee whose personal religion requires abstention from work during certain periods of time may elect to engage in compensatory time and/or credit hours if appropriate, for time lost for meeting those religious requirements. C. To the extent that such modifications in work schedules do not interfere with the efficient accomplishment of the agency’s mission, the Employer shall, in each instance, afford the employee the opportunity to work compensatory overtime and shall, in each instance, grant compensatory time off to an employee requesting such time off for religious observances when the employee’s religious personal beliefs require that the employee abstain from work during certain periods of the workday or workweek. D. For the purpose stated in paragraph (B) above, the employee may work such compensatory overtime before or after the granting of compensatory time off. A granting of advanced compensatory should be repaid by the appropriate amount of compensatory overtime work within a reasonable period of time, generally within two pay periods. Compensatory overtime shall be credited to an employee on an hourly basis, until the payroll system can accommodate charges of less than 1 hour. As soon as the Employer’s payroll system is able to track leave in increments of less than 1 hour, employees will be able to use compensatory time in 15 minute increments. Appropriate records will be kept of compensatory overtime earned and used.
Religious Holiday. The school calendar now provides for holiday periods for the major Christian holidays. An employee, whose religious holiday fall on a regularly scheduled work day and observance or practice of which would require absence from work, may request the days to be deducted from sick leave. These days shall be deducted from the employee’s accumulated leave unless the employee notifies the Human Resources Office by the preceding July 1 of his/her intention to make up the days during non-scheduled work time provided the employee’s supervisor approves. The professional activity of the day(s) will be proposed by the employee, but must be approved by the employee’s supervisor. Make-up days will be allowed to occur after the fact, only in the case of new employees hired July 1 or after, who did not have the opportunity to schedule make-up days prior to the absence for the holidays. Those wishing to do so will make arrangements with their supervisor to make up the time during non-scheduled work time.
Religious Holiday. The following guidelines will be followed as it pertains a teacher’s request to use personal leave days on religious holidays. 1. Teachers who request an absence on an acknowledged religious holiday, must submit a “Teacher’s Absence Form’ (green slip) to the Human Resources Administrator or his/her designee five (5) days in advance of the absence. 2. Teachers should indicate on the Teacher’s Absence Form that the absence is for observance of a specific religious holiday. Phone calls to the substitute desk will not be accepted as a method of applying for an absence on a religious holiday. 3. If there are questions or concerns, the Human Resources Administrator or designee may contact the employee for clarifying information. 4. Absences used for the observance of religious holidays will be deducted from the employee’s personal leave bank; however, these absences will not constitute an undeclared personal business day as provided in the Master Agreement.
