Result 1. Improved management and performance of health systems Health system performance depends on the capacity of leaders, managers, and systems. The Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH), in collaboration with development partners, has made significant strides in building the Leadership, Management, and Governance (LMG) capacities of policy makers, senior managers, and leaders at all levels of the health system. In addition, the ambitious goal of the Health Sector Transformation Plan (HSTP) to End Preventable Maternal and Child Death (EPMCD) demands extraordinary efforts at all levels.

Result 1. Increased awareness Increased awareness by public sector, private sector and civil society organizations of the potential contribution of livestock and the livestock sector to growth, food security and poverty reduction.
Result 1. Increased awareness The initiative will work with national and regional partners to develop and promote a better understanding of the contribution of livestock to food security, livelihood strategies, poverty reduction and economic growth in the countries of the IGAD region. Studies will be undertaken to investigate policy issues and shortfalls that need to be addressed, and to determine appropriate interventions. Fora will be fostered and organized under the umbrella of the IGAD Secretariat to advocate, network and share this information, leading to a wider and deeper understanding of the potential of the livestock sector to contribute to meeting development objectives. Inventories of existing policies, rules and standards will be made and these will be analysed to determine their effects on different strata of livestock-dependent people, and to identify shortfalls and gaps. The initiative will engage at appropriate levels in national policy processes aimed at poverty reduction, for example revisions of poverty reduction strategy papers (PRSP), to bring the outcomes of these analyses into an operational context. The initiative will also facilitate countries to engage in regional policy fora, and support the preparation of policy papers for the IGAD Secretariat to be used in such fora. Targeted public relations campaigns will be undertaken, using media appropriately directed towards different audiences. Dissemination material catering specifically to the needs of various groups of stakeholders will be prepared whilst the majority of project outputs and information will be made available through regional (IGAD) and national internet sites.
