Compensation Guides (Revised November, 2005) BASE PAY is that amount established as one school year’s compensation for a professional employee with a bachelor’s degree and no experience. BASE CONTRACT YEAR as referred to in these statements is the required term for the public schools to be in session as established by the State Board of Education plus the time required by the local Administration for the preparation and reporting at the beginning, during, and at the end of the term, plus any pre-school conference required by the Administration. Such time and duties before, during, and after the actual days of school are part of the base contract year and included in the base pay of this schedule and resulting contracts. COLUMN is defined as designated hours of accreditation, degrees, and degrees plus approved hours as indicated in the various columns of the schedule. Professional employees will move from one column to the appropriate column when additional, approved credit has been acquired, by moving directly across to the appropriate column and then down one step for the service increment. Hours beyond the bachelor’s degree must be graduate hours unless placement on the salary schedule is in the last column or unless the Superintendent requests that additional undergraduate hours be taken by a professional employee to certify in a particular area. Professional employees at the limit in one column will move horizontally to the next column and vertically to the next step when additional credit is earned. STEP is the vertical progression in each column on the schedule. Such progression is normally at the rate of one step for each school year of experience. In placing new professional employees on the salary schedule, the Board will consider all previous years of teaching experience from other school Districts, private schools, or colleges, except home schools and substitute teaching experience. Provided however, the limitations imposed by the salary schedule on professional employees in the District will likewise be imposed on professional employees new to the District. Movement on the salary schedule, vertically and/or horizontally, will be made upon ratification of the negotiated agreement. Written notification of the intent to move horizontally by additional hours must be presented to the superintendent no later than May 1st of the current calendar year. Hours earned during the summer, prior to the beginning of the school year, will be considered in determining the salary column to which a professional employee is assigned for that school year. The transcripts of experienced professional employees coming into the schools of the District will be evaluated in accordance with the above definitions to determine placement on the salary schedule. It is within the authority of the Board to deviate from the salary schedule in the employment of a professional employee in order to fill a vacancy. If a professional employee has been hired above the salary schedule, said employee will be frozen on that step and receive no increments until on schedule. A professional employee who enrolls for additional college credit at the request of the Administration in order to qualify for certain assignments will be reimbursed for the cost of enrollment fees, tuition, and required textbooks and materials when the course is satisfactorily completed and credit granted. Professional employees must submit copies of their up-to-date transcripts to the Superintendent showing completed credits earned before any reimbursement is authorized. Employees who attend other workshops, clinics, or educational meetings at the request of the Administration will be reimbursed for enrollment or registration fees and travel expenses. A school vehicle may be furnished if one is available. Professional employees who attend meetings, workshops, or seminars of their own volition will do so at their own expense unless prior approval is granted by the Administration. Any part-time employee whose assignment exceeds the regular employee workday, as set forth in their contract, will be compensated on a per diem basis with work or assignment being approved in advance by the Superintendent and building principal.
