Salary on Involuntary Demotion. An employee who is involuntarily demoted shall be placed in the step of the lower salary range that will provide a reduction in pay of five (5) percent or to the top of the lower salary range, whichever is lower. The employee shall be given a new salary review date for purposes of merit pay increases. Except, however, employees demoted pursuant to a layoff who exercise their bumping rights shall be placed at the salary step representing the least loss of pay.
