Substitutes for Absent Teachers. 6.15.1 The District will make every reasonable effort to secure a substitute for a teacher who is absent from duty. 6.15.2 In the event a substitute is not available, a certificated employee may be assigned to cover someone else’s class if there is no volunteer available to do so. a. Under the circumstances, such assignments shall be equitably distributed among all available unit members at the site. b. The following applies to substitute coverage at: 1) Elementary Sites; and 2) Secondary Sites for physical education classes only. 1. In the event that no substitute coverage is found, and a class is blended into an existing class, that teacher shall be paid the prevailing certificated hourly rate. 2. If a class is split and blended into more than one existing class, the hourly rate shall be prorated based upon the split of students. 6.15.3 The District will issue guidelines to sites on making assignments in the absence of a substitute. Within the first thirty (30) days of school, site administration will use these District issued guidelines to create a plan for making assignment in the absence of a substitute.
