Common use of Summer School Assignments Clause in Contracts

Summer School Assignments. It is the prerogative of the Board, when and if these assignments are available, that vacancies will be filled by the most senior bargaining unit member provided that the individuals meet reasonable qualifications, unless a valid and demonstrable reason is otherwise provided. In the event that no qualified individual applies for these positions, then they may be filled at the discretion of the Board. Bargaining unit members who resign their regular work assignment will also relinquish their summer school assignment. Employees who are awarded these positions shall retain them until: 1. the employee is evaluated out of the position; 2. the employee resigns; 3. there is a lapse of one (1) or more years since the program ran. In order to be eligible for a summer school assignment, the employee must be able to work the entire assignment. Employees will not be allowed to use vacation or other benefited time off from their regular assignment in order to take a summer school assignment*. *If the situation arises where only one qualified bargaining unit member applies for the position, and is unable to accept the entire assignment due to conflicts in their regular assignment, members from the association and management will sit down to discuss potential solutions. An employee who is awarded a summer school position will not be forced to relinquish their position should the employee experience an unexpected circumstance, determined by the human resources director, which prevents the employee from completing the entire assignment.
