Surface Roughening. Surface roughening aids in the establishment of vegetative cover, reduces runoff velocity, increases infiltration, and provides for sediment trapping through the provision of a rough soil surface. Different methods are available for achieving a roughened soil surface on a slope, and the selection of an appropriate method depends on the type of slope. • Seeding should be conducted in late fall after fall rains have begun.
Surface Roughening. Surface roughening creates horizontal grooves along the contour of the slope. Roughening may be accomplished by furrowing, scarifying, ripping or disking the soil surface to create a 2 to 4 inch minimum variation in soil surface. Surface roughening will not be paid for separately, but shall be included in the work.
