The Services Directive Sample Clauses

The Services Directive. The Services Directive12 was adopted at the end of 2006 with the aim of facilitating the free movement of services in the services sector within the Internal Market and modernising the legal framework in respect of the provision of service activities. The Directive concerns activities which account for 40% of EU27 GDP and a high proportion of total employment. The objective of the Services Directive is to unlock the full economic and job-creation potential of the EU’s internal market in services, which has been estimated as potentially adding up to an additional 0.6- 1.5% of EU GDP by removing unjustified and disproportionate barriers. As such, it forms an important part of the Commission’s programme for regulatory simplification. The Services Directive was required to be transposed into national legislation by the end of 2009. Service providers can provide services on either a temporary or a permanent basis in another EU Member State.
