Common use of Unauthorised absences Clause in Contracts

Unauthorised absences. 52.1 Where an employee is absent from duty without approval, the absence will be without pay and will not count as service for any purpose. Other benefits provided under this Agreement, including flextime, will cease to be available to the employee until he/she resumes duty, or is granted leave. 52.2 Where an employee is unable to attend work, either as a result of he/she breaching the APS Code of Conduct, or his/her unlawful behaviour, the absence will be regarded as unauthorised and the employee will not be paid for the period of the absence.

Action will not be taken under this clause of the Agreement until all reasonable steps have been taken to contact the employee and ascertain the reason for absence. 35.2 All periods of unauthorised absence will not count as service for any purpose.
