University Discretion. The University will give consideration to the circumstances of each employee’s application for Personal Leave, and has the right to determine whether or not to grant a leave of absence and to set the duration of the leave. 1. The University will not grant a leave of absence during the first year of employment except where the leave is of short duration in emergency circumstances. 2. At the University’s discretion, a leave may be extended if the employee requests the extension in writing before the initial leave expires, provided the total duration of the leave shall not exceed one (1) calendar year.
