Water Quality and Beneficial Uses Sample Clauses

Water Quality and Beneficial Uses. The installation of chlorine analyzers at distribution reservoirs furthers the Water Boards’ goal to protect potable water resources, waterways, and riparian habitats from pollution and to enhance water quality. EBMUD staff may use data provided by the chlorine analyzers to more quickly respond to low chlorine residual in the distribution system. Access to accurate, real-time chlorine residual data is anticipated to improve public health by ensuring more consistent chlorine residuals in potable water. Additionally, when there is a need to discharge from a distribution reservoir monitored by a chlorine analyzer, the real-time chlorine data may allow EBMUD staff to fine-tune best management practice selection and deployment to reduce the risk of impacts to the environment. The project has a nexus to the location and nature of the violations alleged in this Settlement Agreement because it is designed to improve chlorine residual monitoring in the potable water distribution system in the same region where the alleged violations occurred.

Water Quality and Beneficial Uses. The Project will help reduce or avoid impacts to aquatic wildlife and will protect the beneficial uses of Xxxxxxxx and San Mateo creeks. These creeks may support a variety of species, including California red-legged frog and federal endangered steelhead and rainbow trout. A leak from the pipe could damage the creek and adjacent riparian habitat via the discharge of potable water with residual chlorine, turbidity, and sediment. The existing pipe was installed in the early and mid-1950s; over the last eight years two breaks have occurred in this section of the pipeline. The October 2013 incident is the subject of the Stipulation leading to this ECA.
Water Quality and Beneficial Uses. The additional tanks will increase the existing temporary storage capability during storms and will prevent untreated sewage discharges that could potentially contaminate the Pacific Ocean, Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, recreational beaches, and sensitive biological habitats. Expansion of the Wet Weather Facility would also provide more time to perform preventive maintenance on the pumps and the ancillary features of the force main, such as the air/vacuum relief valves and surge tank. A larger storage facility would also provide Sewer Authority Mid-Coastside the ability to hold a portion of the peak daily flow and release it back to the collection system when plant influent flows are low, such as at night. This would help stabilize the dramatic diurnal flow variance the plant currently experiences. A steadier flow will benefit the biological treatment process since the bacteria will not be starved during the night. Also, the project will allow repairs to the pipes and manholes in the gravity portion of the intertie pipe system downstream of the force main to be completed more safely.
Water Quality and Beneficial Uses. This SEP will provide educational materials, compliance training, and compliance education on BMPs that will protect the beneficial uses of waters of the State during planned and unplanned discharges of drinking water to surface water.
