Common use of Work Day – Work Period Clause in Contracts

Work Day – Work Period. The normal work period shall consist of eighty (80) hours of work within a two (2) week pay period. The normal work day shall consist of eight (8) hours, exclusive of an unpaid duty free lunch period. However, the Appointing Authority may establish a scheduling pattern and post vacancies that utilize twelve (12) hour shifts. Only within a scheduling pattern that utilizes twelve (12) hour shifts may a four (4) hour shift be used. All other scheduling patterns must follow the eight (8) hour normal work day unless otherwise agreed to under Section 15, Flexible Scheduling. All assigned hours worked in excess of the normal work period or in excess of the normal work day shall be considered overtime. All paid vacation time, paid holidays, paid sick leave, compensatory time off, and paid leaves of absence shall be considered as "time worked" for purposes of this Article.
