Concurrent Care Claims A Concurrent Care Claim is a special type of Claim that arises if the Plan informs a claimant that benefits for a course of treatment that has been previously approved for a period of time or number of treatments is to be reduced or eliminated.
In the event a Concurrent Care Claim results in an Adverse Benefit Determination, AvMed will notify the Claimant at a time sufficiently in advance of the reduction or termination to allow the Claimant to appeal and obtain a determination on review before the benefit is reduced or terminated.
The Claims Administrator will decide any Concurrent Care Claim that involves urgent care to extend or continue a course of treatment beyond the initial period of time or number of treatments within 24 hours if the Claim is received at least 24 hours prior to the expiration of the approved treatment.
In addition, different claims procedures apply depending on whether the Claim is an Urgent Care Claim, Pre-Service Claim, Post-Service Claim or Concurrent Care Claim.
