Field capacity definition

Field capacity means that maximum moisture content of a waste, under field conditions of temperature and pressure, above which moisture is released by gravity drainage.
Field capacity means the amount of water remaining in the soil two days after having been saturated and after free drainage has ceased.
Field capacity means the amount of water that can be held in soil before gravity will begin to drain the soil.

  • Field capacity is operationally defined as the water potential associated with the moisture remaining after a soil has been fully wetted but any excess water has drained away.
