Institutional Works means course outlines, syllabuses and reading schedules. “Intellectual Property” means Institutional Works, Scholarly Works, Encoded Works, patents and patent applications (as defined under 35 U.S.C, et seq. and copyrights (as defined under 17 U.S.C. et seq. or common law, as the case may be).

Institutional Works includes Materials that are 1) created at the specific direction or request of the University for a specific University purpose, 2) created as part of a project involving a grant or contract sponsor, 3) works made for hire or 4) created as part of a project involving other third parties with whom the University has entered agreements concerning copyright ownership. Institutional works also includes a work that has been created by a direct allocation of University funds or is created using significant University resources, e.g., non-faculty employees working within the scope of their employment with the University. • Thus, trademarks that are Independent Works will be owned by the Author; trademarks that are Institutional Works will be owned by the University; ownership of trademarks that are University Supported Works will be determined by the provisions of Section 5.0 of this Policy; and ownership of trademarks that are Contractual Works will be determined by the provisions of Section 7.0 of this Policy.

Institutional Works means any item created by a person hired by HSN for a specific purpose (e.g. consultants, contractors, contract engineers, entities) or any item created by a HSN Person under specific HSN direction or under a Research Contract. Examples of Institutional Works include, without limitation, formulae, processes, ideas, algorithms, computer software, training programs, and any other direct or indirect results of the services performed by a person, including a HSN Person, for HSN (including, where applicable, all scripts, models, specifications, source code, design documents, creations, artwork, text, graphics photos, pictures and music), in-licensed projects, and research independent of HSN academic or sponsored research activities;
