In areas with overlapping coverage, radios will work on their preferred site in order to efficiently utilize channel resources while minimizing the number of channels necessary to complete a talkgroup call. Four types of preference can be programmed into the radio personality:  Always Preferred – The subscriber unit will always use this site if it has at least acceptable signal strength, even if the site enters site trunking mode.  Preferred - The subscriber unit will use this site if it has at least an acceptable signal strength rating and is in wide-area trunking mode.
