NHS Employment Check Standards definition

NHS Employment Check Standards means the documents which set out the pre-appointment checks that are required by law, those that are mandated by Department of Health policy, and those that are required for access to the NHS Care Records Service and include, without limitation, verification of identity checks, right to work checks, registration and qualification checks, employment history and reference checks, criminal record checks and occupational health checks;

NHS Employment Check Standards means the legal and mandatory checks employers must carry out for the appointment and on-going employment of all individuals in the NHS and include all pre-appointment checks that are required by law, those that are mandated by Department of Health policy, and those that are required for access to the NHS Care Record Service. The standards apply to permanent staff, staff on fixed-term contracts, temporary staff, volunteers, students, trainees, contractors as well as on the appointment of locums and agency staff (in which case the standards must be met by providers of such staff).

  • Supervisory employee means an employee, regardless of job description, having authority in the interest of the employer to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline other employees, or the responsibility to assign work to and direct them, or to adjust their grievances, or effectively recommend that action, if, in connection with the foregoing functions, the exercise of that authority is not of a merely routine or clerical nature, but requires the use of independent judgment.
