Not Yet Competent definition

Not Yet Competent or “NYC” means that your work is incomplete or that you have not included some important information or adequately demonstrated your understanding of the information. In this case you should follow the examiner’s recommendations for improvement. There are no penalties for a grade of Not Yet Competent. If you are not sure why you have been requested to resubmit a unit, please contact an Education Adviser. Please send your original unit attempt in with the re-submitted unit.

Not Yet Competent outcome means the participant must do all tasks again for that unit and will not be charged an additional fee.

Not Yet Competent means that the responses you have provided are not sufficient to satisfy the requirements of the relevant Unit/s of Competency, and you will be asked to identify and submit further information and evidence.

Examples of Not Yet Competent in a sentence

  • Stage 2: Student deemed Not Yet Competent in FIRST assessment Students who are deemed to be Not Yet Competent are to be provided with information identifying the areas in which they failed to achieve competency.

  • Once satisfactory performance is achieved in all the performance criteria for a unit candidate will be marked C for Competent; if not they will be marked NYC for Not Yet Competent until a re-assessment takes place.

  • Stage 4: Student deemed Not Yet Competent in SECOND re-sit/re-submit  If the student is still unable to demonstrate competency, then the student will be required to repeat the unit of competency.

  • Stage 3: Student deemed Not Yet Competent in FIRST re-sit/re-submit  If the student is again deemed Not Yet Competent they will be provided with information identifying the areas in which they failed to achieve competency.

  • Once satisfactory performance is achieved in all the performance criteria for a unit, candidates will be marked C for Competent; if not they will be marked NYC for Not Yet Competent until a re-assessment takes place.

  • If a student is not able to demonstrate competency after reassessment they will be NYC Not Yet Competent.

  • Employees deemed Not Yet Competent, may be retested at a later date following further training.
