Special population definition

Special population means an identified group, based on demographic or other specific traits, of patients or prospective patients of a service whose needs require special consideration or attention related to admission practices or service delivery.

  • Population means the population as ascertained at the last preceding census of which the relevant figures have been published;

  • Moderate sedation means a drug-induced depression of consciousness during which patients respond purposefully to verbal commands, either alone or accompanied by light tactile stimulation. No interventions are required to maintain a patent airway, and spontaneous ventilation is adequate. Cardiovascular function is usually maintained.
