Student Assistant definition

Student Assistant means any full-time student who is enrolled at the University and works no more than ten (l0) scheduled hours in any one week. Exceptions to full-time student status may be mutually agreed between the University and the Union in unusual circumstances. Such student assistants may work more than ten (l0) hours in any one week if they replace other student assistants who are unable to report for their scheduled hours. The term “replacement” shall not apply to terminations or severances. Such student assistants are outside the certification. A student who is hired to regularly work more than ten (l0) scheduled hours per week shall be considered an employee as defined in Article 3.01. Student assistants performing duties normally done by employees bound by this agreement shall be paid at the base hourly rate as outlined in this agreement. It is understood and agreed that student assistants shall not be used to displace members of the bargaining unit, nor be used to achieve attrition of the bargaining unit. This shall not be construed as a staffing guarantee.

Student Assistant means a part-time or full-time student enrolled in a regular credit course at NSCAD University, or in the case of the summer semester, is registered for Fall enrolment, and who performs work which is limited in scope and responsibility and is defined and limited by Article 4.04 and who is not an Employee of NSCAD University in any other capacity. Student Assistants are not members of the Bargaining Unit.
