Text Messaging While Driving. December 30, 2009, FTA encourages each third party contractor to promote policies and initiatives for its employees and other personnel that adopt and promote safety policies that decrease crashes by distracted drivers, including policies to ban text messaging while driving, and to include this provision in each third party subcontract involving the project.
Text Messaging While Driving. FAA encourages recipients of Federal grant funds to adopt and enforce safety policies that decrease crashes by distracted drivers, including policies to ban text messaging while driving when performing work related to a grant or sub-grant. J-U-B has in place a policy within J-U-B Accident Prevention plan that prohibits all employees from texting and driving. J-U-B shall include these policies in each third-party subcontract exceeding $10,000 that involves driving a motor vehicle in the performance of work activities associated with the project.

  • Text messaging means reading from or entering data into any handheld or other electronic device, including for the purpose of short message service texting, e-mailing, instant messaging, obtaining navigational information, or engaging in any other form of electronic data retrieval or electronic data communication. The term does not include glancing at or listening to a navigational device that is secured in a commercially designed holder affixed to the vehicle, provided that the destination and route are programmed into the device either before driving or while stopped in a location off the roadway where it is safe and legal to park.
