Urban transit system definition

Urban transit system means Iowa urban transit system as defined in section 452A.57, subsection 6.
Urban transit system means a system designated by the department in which motor buses are operated primarily upon the streets of cities for the transportation of passengers who present themselves for transportation without discrimination up to the limit of the capacity of each motor bus. “Urban transit system” also includes motor buses operated upon the streets of adjoining cities, whether interstate or intrastate for the transportation of passengers without discrimination up to the limit of the capacity of each motor bus. A privately chartered bus service or interurban carrier subject to the jurisdiction of the state department of transportation is not an urban transit system.
Urban transit system means a system designated by the department which meets the requirements of Iowa Code section 324A.1(8). To be designated as an urban transit system for the purposes of this chapter, the system must serve a city or urbanized area with a population of 20,000 or more. The system also must be managed by a board of local officials who have either been elected by the public or appointed by elected officials, and who are responsible for policy and oversight of transit services for one or more incorporated areas within Iowa.

Urban transit system means a public transit system primarily urban in character which is operated by a street railroad company or a motor carrier, is subject to the jurisdiction of the Department of Public Safety, and whose fares and charges are regulated by the Department of Public Safety, or is operated pursuant to a franchise contract with a municipality of this state so that its fares and charges are regulated by or are subject to the approval of the municipality. An urban transit system certificate shall be issued by the Department of Public Safety, or by the municipality which has regulatory authority, upon an affirmative showing that the applicant operates an urban transit system. The certificate shall be obtained and filed with the commissioner and shall continue in effect so long as the holder of such certificate qualifies as an urban transit system. Any urban transit system certificate granted prior to January 1, 2002, shall be deemed valid as of the date it was issued;
