Examples of Use of deadly force in a sentence
Use of deadly force by peace officers: “the officer reasonably believes that the use of deadly force is necessary to prevent death or serious bodily injury to the officer or another person,” or to effect an arrest under circumstances set forth in law.
Use of deadly force by individuals: “A person is justified in using force intended or likely to cause death or serious bodily injury only if the person reasonably believes that force is necessary to prevent death or serious bodily injury to the person or a third person as a result of another person's imminent use of unlawful force” U.C.A. 76-2-402(1)(a),(b).
Use of deadly force (whether or not it actually causes a death) is permissible only when an officer has probable cause to believe that a suspect poses an immediate threat of serious physical harm to the officer or another person.
Use of deadly force is prohibited except when a person authorized to apprehend reasonably believes such force is necessary for self-defense or for the defense of another person for the use or imminent use of deadly physical force by the person apprehended or to be apprehended.
Use of deadly force is justifiable where the entry was made or attempted in a riotous, violent, or tumultuous manner and the person reasonably believes that the use of force is necessary to prevent a personal attack upon herself or another in the dwelling.
Use of deadly force is also justifiable where the person reasonably believes that such force is necessary to prevent the entry into the dwelling by a person who intends to commit a felony in the dwelling.
In making this determination, we must be mindful that police officers are ‘‘forced to make split-second judgments— in circumstances that are tense, uncertain, and rapidly evolving—about the amount of force that is necessary in a particular situ- ation.’’ Id. at 396–97, 109 S.Ct. 1865.[7, 8] Use of deadly force is not unrea- sonable when an officer would have reason to believe that the suspect poses a threat of serious harm to the officer or others.
Use of deadly force, however, would only be reasonable if the resistance created a serious threat to the safety of the officer.

Use of deadly force must be objective and reasonable under all circumstances known to the officer at the time, including thenature and severity of a prison disturbance, whether officers at the facility carry firearms, and the use or threat of use of force upon the officers and others.
