Academic Freedom in Practice. Faculty members shall be free to present instructional materials that are pertinent to the subject and level taught. Departmental practice may require the adjunct faculty to use either a text chosen by the department or a primary text to be chosen from a designated list. While the selection of a primary text may in some cases be limited, it is understood that supplementary materials of the faculty member’s choosing may be incorporated into the required reading of the course. In all cases, while the adjunct faculty member is entitled to freedom in the classroom in presenting instructional materials, he/she shall not introduce into instruction controversial matters which have no relation to the subject.
