Common use of ACADEMIC FREEDOM Clause in Contracts

ACADEMIC FREEDOM. ‌ 1.2.1 Under the Education and Training Act 2020 all kaimahi have the freedom within the law, to question and test received wisdom, to put forward ideas, to state controversial or unpopular opinions, and to undertake research. 1.2.2 The employer acknowledges the practice of academic freedom is essential to the professional conduct of teaching, research and scholarship. The employer encourages all kaimahi to engage in the responsible pursuit of knowledge and to provide informed and accurate commentary within the scope of their expertise. 1.2.3 Academic freedom must be exercised in a professional, timely and lawful manner that shows respect for the opinion of others and recognises the statutory requirement for the employer to account for the proper use of resources.
