AN EMPLOYEE'S SERIOUS HEALTH CONDITION. Leave requested for an eligible employee's own serious health condition will be governed by the regulations of the FMLA. Upon further written request from the employee, the Human Resources Director may extend the leave up to a maximum of one (1) year. Sick leave may be used for the period of time that the employee is unable to work due to the serious health condition. The employee will be required to provide a medical certification from a health care provider, of the employee's inability to perform the essential functions of his or her position. A leave of absence without pay may be granted only after an employee has exhausted his or her floating holiday and available sick leave and annual leave accruals.
