Appointment and Advanced Step Hiring. The City Manager, when making appointments to the rank of Police Officer, shall be authorized to recognize the past relevant experience of applicants in determining their placement within the step system.
Appointment and Advanced Step Hiring. The Mayor, when making appointments to the rank of Police Officer, shall be authorized to recognize the past experience of applicants in determining their placement within the step system. The Mayor has the authority to place a new hire with at least five (5) years of relevant experience in any step of the wage scale. Officers who start at an advanced step shall proceed to subsequent steps, if any, upon their anniversary date. For purposes of this section, relevant experience is considered experience at a law enforcement agency with at least fifteen (15) full-time police officers.
