Approved Use. A. Employees shall be granted leave with full pay for actual illness or injury, confinement for reason of quarantine, serious illness of the employee's immediate family at the Sheriff's discretion, upon certification from a physician stating the employee's need to care for the ill family member, and/or non-routine visit to a physician or dentist for medical care up to the number of accumulated sick days the employee has earned. Immediate family is defined as only: mother, father, brother, sister, child, minor step child, xxxxxx child, spouse, grandparent, grandchild, mother-in-law, father-in-law, legal guardian or other person who stands in the place of a parent. Paid sick leave for care of family members other than those listed above must be approved by the Sheriff. The Sheriff's approval will not be unreasonably withheld. Sick leave abuse will be grounds for termination. Employees absent on sick leave for a period of twenty-four (24) consecutive working hours may be requested to provide a physician's statement verifying the nature of the illness and attesting to the employee's fitness to return to work. An employee injured on the job may choose to file for Workers' Compensation rather than use his sick leave days or go on leave under the Occupational Injury Leave (OIL) permitted under this Agreement. The employee's current family or single plan medical coverage will remain in full force for a maximum of six (6) months while the employee is receiving Workers' Compensation. Employees who receive Workers' Compensation must pay back any sick leave paid by the Employer for the period for which Workers' Compensation is paid. C. Any employee who recompenses the Employer with funds from Workers' Compensation shall be credited for the repaid sick time in equal proportions. X. Xxxxxxxx leave for male employees may be deducted from sick leave for the care of the employee's wife and family during the post-natal period. Such sick leave shall be for a maximum period of three (3) consecutive days. Written requests for this purpose must be submitted to and approved by the Sheriff.
