Common use of Assignment of Teaching Clause in Contracts

Assignment of Teaching. 17.01.1 It is expected that each Department shall ordinarily assign those courses within the Department which its members are to teach. In so doing, the Department is responsible for ensuring that there is a reasonable balance between small and large classes and that there is an equitable distribution of workload among members of the Department taking into account independent study courses, Honours thesis supervision, the varying demands of alternative teaching and evaluation methodologies. In these circumstances, the Department Chair shall make a recommendation based on academic program requirements to the appropriate Xxxx on whether or not courses should be cancelled and any related reassignment of teaching duties. Authority to make reassignments rests with the appropriate Xxxx, who may in exceptional circumstances and following consultation with the Chair of the Department concerned, reassign to Employees those courses they are to teach. 17.01.5 The time and place for each course are determined by the appropriate University authority.
