Overload Teaching. Paragraph 1: Overload teaching is that teaching conducted by a full-time classroom teacher teaching daily in a vacant position during his/her planning period.
Overload Teaching.
23.1 When the University determines a need for more courses or sections than can be mounted by available Faculty Members within the limits of normal teaching commitments, the Chair will initially provide an opportunity to qualified Tenure-track and Tenured Faculty Members to teach such offerings on an overload basis. Such arrangements shall be subject to the approval of the Xxxx.
23.2 A Faculty Member who, subject to approval in writing by the Xxxx, teaches more than his/her normal workload, shall be paid an overload stipend.
23.3 Compensation for Overload Teaching shall be consistent with the rates as per Article 53: Compensation.
23.4 A Faculty Member may teach, with approval of the Xxxx, a maximum of one course on Overload per Academic Year. Approval to teach more than one course on Overload per academic year must be based on extenuating circumstances and is subject to approval by the Xxxx.
23.5 Faculty Members on Reduced Workload Appointments or with approved release time (i.e., current workload in teaching is less than departmental norm for the Member’s agreed-upon percentage effort in teaching) from teaching are not eligible for Overload Teaching.
23.6 The Association shall be notified of the names and Departments of the Faculty Members engaged in Overload Teaching and the level(s) of remuneration provided.
Overload Teaching. If a Member teaching in the Regular Session teaches more than the established weekly teaching load for that year, the Member shall be paid a stipend for this overload according to the following formula:
Overload Teaching. Department/Division Chairs will not teach on an overload basis during the day program. Exceptions, based on exigency, can be individually authorized by the appropriate Vice President.
Overload Teaching. 18 2 7 1 When regular intramural and Part-time Studies courses require staffing on a part-time basis paid by an overload stipend as specified in Article 30, the Xxxx or his/her designate shall first notify Members of the academic unit, or sub-unit as appropriate, of the availability of the position at least five days before it is posted or advertised . Upon application in accordance with 18 .2 .7 .2, a Member shall be given first consideration for the position and shall be offered the position if the Member has a full- time appointment during the term(s) in which the course is scheduled, has a satisfactory record as a teacher, and if the course is within his/her area of expertise . If the Member’s application is denied, the Xxxx shall provide a written statement of reasons . A Member on Sabbatical Leave under 17 .1
18 2 7 2 To exercise this right of first consideration, a Member shall inform the Department Chair or equivalent in writing of his/her interest in teaching a course on overload . Written notices submitted annually by March 15 are valid for courses offered in the fall, winter and spring terms of the next academic year . Otherwise, to exercise the right of first consideration, Members shall inform the Department Chair or equivalent within five days of the notification to the Members of the availability of the course under 18 .
2 .7 .1 . A Member who applies to teach a course on overload after the course has been advertised or posted shall be considered along with other applicants, subject to the seniority rights of Contract Academic Staff .
18 2 7 3 Should a course become available within two weeks of the beginning of the term or after the term commences, the Xxxx or his/her designate shall first notify Members of the academic unit, or sub-unit as appropriate, of the availability of the course. To exercise the right of first consideration, a Member shall apply to teach the course within one day of the notification being sent, and if the Member has a satisfactory record as a teacher, and if the course is within his/her area of expertise, the Department Chair may recommend to the Xxxx that the Member be appointed to teach the course without advertising or posting the position .
18 2 7 4 When a Member is offered an appointment to teach an overload course, the Member’s regular assigned teaching workload under 18 .2 .2 shall not be amended without the Member’s prior written consent .

Overload Teaching. Overload teaching activities should not impinge upon or serve as a detriment to the regular duties of the faculty member. Faculty who have been given assigned time for administrative, UFE, and FO activities may not receive overload for teaching without the approval of the Chief Academic Officer.
Overload Teaching. Overload teaching for CHSPH faculty teaching on a semester basis may not exceed one (1) three-credit course per semester without a waiver approved by the xxxx and the Chief Academic Officer.
Overload Teaching. (a) No Member shall be required to teach on Overload.
(b) In planning course offerings, Department Chairs shall attempt to minimize the need for sessional lecturers or courses taught on Overload by Members. Chairs shall consult with the Vice-President / Academic Xxxx to determine the financial viability of offering courses through sessional lecturers or Overload.
(c) The Chair shall notify Department Members of the availability of any sessional course. Members shall normally be given preference in teaching such courses on Overload, provided the Member has a full-time appointment during the term(s) in which the course is scheduled, and provided the course is within the Member’s area of expertise.
(d) Members shall notify the Chair, in writing, within five (5) working days of the Chair’s notification, of their desire to teach an Overload course.
(e) Should a course become available within two (2) weeks of the beginning of the term, or after the term commences, the Vice-President / Academic Xxxx or his / her designate shall first notify Members of the department of the availability of the course. To exercise the right of first consideration, a Member shall apply to teach the course within one (1) day of the notification being sent, and if the course is within his / her area of expertise, the Department Chair shall recommend to the Xxxx that the Member be appointed to teach the course.
(f) If the Vice-President / Academic Xxxx denies a Member’s request to teach a sessional course on overload, then the Vice-President / Academic Xxxx shall provide a written explanation of reasons.
(g) Where a Member refuses an Overload offer, the Department Chair shall proceed with the appointment of sessional lecturer or cancel the course.
(h) A Member on leave or who has requested and received a reduction in the assigned teaching load is ineligible to teach overload courses, except with the permission of the Vice-President / Academic Xxxx.
(i) Any Member who teaches an Overload course shall, in consultation with the Vice-President / Academic Xxxx, receive either a Sessional Stipend or a course release in a future term.
(j) In any one academic year, a Member’s additional teaching on overload stipends shall not exceed the equivalent of two (2) courses.
(k) The Association shall be provided a copy of any accepted overload assignment offers.
