Can an Employees Employment Be Terminated. The organisation can terminate the employment of an employee by giving the following notice: Period of Continuous Service Period of Notice Not more than 1 year One week More than 1 year but not more than 3 years Two weeks More than 3 years but not more than 5 years Three weeks More than 5 years Four weeks The period of notice is increased by one week if the employee is over 45 years of age and has completed at least 2 years continuous service with the organisation. If an employee resigns from the organisation the employee must give the same notice as the organisation. The organisation can pay wages in lieu of the notice period in which case the employee would not be required to work during the notice period.
