Climate and the tuna-dolphin bond Sample Clauses

Climate and the tuna-dolphin bond. Xxxxxxxx Xxxxx of the University of San Diego and Xxxxxxx Xxxxx of the IATTC are currently preparing a study for publication on how environmental change – seasonal, El Niño/La Niña, and long-term climate trends – affects the distribution and prevalence of the tuna-dolphin bond. Their results show that the climate change is intensifying the oceanographic conditions that promote the tuna-dolphin association. From 1992- 2017, the area where the spinner dolphin-yellowfin tuna association occurs has quadrupled; the area where the spotted dolphin-yellowfin tuna association has about doubled. Seasonally, the area where both associ- ations occur expands northward in the northern summer and southward in the southern summer. The man- agement implications have been apparent over the last decade as the relative proportion of spinner mortality has increased, and spinner dolphins have surpassed spotted dolphins as the species with the highest mortal- ity. 2 xxxxx://xxx.xxxxxxxxxxxxx.xxx/science/article/pii/X0000000000000000

Climate and the tuna-dolphin bond. Xxxxxxxx Xxxxx, of the University of San Diego, and Xxxxxxx Xxxxx, of the IATTC staff, are currently stud- ying how environmental change – seasonal, El Niño/La Niña, and long-term climate trends – affects the distribution and prevalence of the tuna-dolphin bond. Their results show that climate change is causing the oceanographic conditions that promote the tuna-dolphin association, and particularly the tuna-spinner dol- phin association, to expand. The number of sets on pure herds of spinner dolphins has increased over time, the areas where these sets occur have expanded, and the relative proportion of spinner dolphin mortalities has increased. 30 Mortalidad promedio - Average mortality = 8.19 11 10 LMDP - ADML = 47.57 Lances sobre delfines - Sets on dolphins =9,774 Mortalidad - Mortality = 819 Mort. por xxxxx - per set = 0.08 35 30 Número de buques- Number of vessels 25 20 15 10 5 6-10 11-15 16-20 00-00 00-00 00-00 00-00 00-00 00-00 00-00 00-00 > 60 Intervalos de mortalidad - Mortality bins FIGURE 1.
